My Books

My first novel 'Inheritance', is a contemporary romance mystery set in Far North Queensland and is published  by Wings ePress  in both e-book and paperback.

It is a book about people but it is also about the fascinating, rugged and beautiful country of Far North Queensland. In it you will experience life on  a cattle station and spend time in the exotic rain forests. You will come up close and personal with the unique animals of Australia and take a trip to a coral island in the Great Barrier Reef, where you will snorkel in the crystal clear waters with brilliant coloured tropical fish, as you view the coral below.

You will also meet some of the original inhabitants of Australia, the aboriginals and learn a little of their fascinating Dreamtime stories.

All in the company of Cassie Taylor, a young Sydney woman whose life is changed forever when she inherits 'Yallandoo', a cattle station near Cairns in Queensland.

When Cassie leaves Sydney and travels up north to take possesion, she has just ended an unhappy relationship and is in no mood for any further romantic involvement.

On meeting the dashing and entrepreneurial Mark Pierce, a neighbour, his chauvanistic attitude immediately puts her offside. However, as time passes she sees a different side to him. But are his professed feelings for her genuine, or does he just want to get his hands on 'Yallandoo'?

Forced by a drought to find a way to increase the station's cash flow, Cassie decides to capitalise on the exotic appeal of the beautiful and rugged country by adding a tourist lodge to the property.

When a fire partly burns down her cabins, and she receives threatening letters, she knows someone is out to stop her, but she has no idea who, or why.  Could it possibly be Mark?  Or Stella, a gallery owner, who covets her secret treasures. Or perhaps Ben, willing to do anything for a quick dollar and who ultimately pays a terrible price for his duplicity. Then there are her own workers, including Daniel and old Sam, the aboriginal elder who must protect his aboriginal heritage at all costs.

Rosie, Cassie's lifelong friend and confidante, is the one person she can trust. But Rosie has her own problem; is her love for Daniel doomed because of racial prejudice and bigotry?

The two friends must both face betrayal and heartbreak before they find who is behind the troubles and, ultimately, the answer to happiness.

"Inheritance – by Kate Loveday is listed as a “romance mystery novel” yet the book is so much more.
Overall I found the book compelling. Kate Loveday has a wonderful talent for getting into each and every character’s head and telling the story from their point of view. The different twists and turns in the story retain the reader’s interest while not all the outcomes are as one would expect!
A very believable story; one that draws the reader in and leaves them feeling as  though they have not only met these people but have really managed to get to know them all, very well."

"INHERITANCE is not only a great romantic suspense story, but also a chronicle of Cassie’s life as she grows into a woman. I really liked her character and that of Rosie.

There is a strong supportive friendship between the two young women. Rosie is a wonderful friend and I was glad that we got to know her. Another wonderful secondary character is Daniel.

I also enjoyed how she incorporated the lore of the Aboriginal people of Australia in the story. Ms. Loveday has created a wonderful setting in Yallandoo, it sounds like a place I’d love to visit. Her characters are wonderfully developed and come alive off the page.

This is a great book!"

'Red Gold'

Kitty Morland is a young lady living in England in the 1870’s, leading a happy, sheltered existence. Her pleasant world is shattered when her father loses everything due to an unscrupulous swindle. Unable to cope with a future of poverty, he takes his own life, leaving his wife Bella, son Robert and Kitty to fend for themselves.

In a moment of weakness Kitty steals some diamonds, to which she believes she has a moral right. Desperate to avoid gaol-or worse- she and her mother flee to Australia, hoping to join Robert, who is already there. But it seems that the consequences of her actions will follow her.

On board the ship carrying her to the other side of the world Kitty meets three men who will influence her future –Rufe Cavanagh, a dashing Colonial, William Barron, an English aristocrat, and Jan van Mayen, a South African diamond merchant.

When they reach Sydney, nothing goes as Kitty expects, and she ends up bypassing a chance at love and happiness with Rufe.  A loveless marriage to William takes her and Bella to the timber cutting area of Bulahdelah, home to the giant cedar trees, known as 'red gold'.

But just when she seems safe, her past catches up with her.
